AC Problems You May Encounter When the Warm Weather Returns

In no time at all, spring will bring warmer temperatures to Lake Nona, FL and you’ll be ready to turn on your air conditioner for the first time this season. Even if you are diligent about scheduling routine maintenance, you may run into issues with your system from time to time. A malfunctioning air conditioner in our hot and sticky climate is simply not an option. Now is the time to turn on your AC and check to see if you encounter any of the following AC problems.

Your AC Won’t Turn On

Fortunately, in some cases this problem is relatively simple to resolve and doesn’t require a call for air conditioner repair. The problem could be that somebody adjusted the thermostat without your knowing. Another problem could be that the AC circuit breaker was flipped, so be sure to check your breaker box. If revisiting your thermostat settings or flipping the AC circuit breaker doesn’t work, you may need a new thermostat.

Your AC Isn’t Adequately Cooling Your Home

This is typically indicative of an airflow issue. A clogged filter could be the culprit. Another reason for low airflow could be that the outside condenser unit is clogged with debris. Ensure that your unit has at least 2 feet of clearance all the way around it, removing loose branches, leaves, or other outdoor matter. If airflow isn’t the issue, then it may be necessary to call a professional to check your refrigerant lines.

Your AC is Making Odd Noises

Are you hearing strange noises when your AC starts up or wind down? Your unit may have something loose inside and this could be a quick fix. However, noise could also be indicative of blower issues. Remember, you should never investigate this type of issue on your own, since dealing with the high voltage of your air conditioner could be dangerous.

These are just a few problems you might encounter when you turn on your AC for the first time this season. Keep a look out for other signs as well, including if your utility bill increases from previous years or the unit stays on too long or not long enough. If your system is aging, these could be signs you need a replacement.
